History

The RSVP stud was founded by Steven and Ross Pickering in 2002, initially based on Ranelagh, Glaston Hill, Minlacowie and Yackatoon females. The name RSVP is an acronym for Ross Steven Victor Pickering. The brand U2 lazy P was originally held by Ross’ father.  Early in the stud’s development the herd grew rapidly and following the purchase of the entire Sylvan Springs Stud in 2006, the decision was made to expand the operation further.

“The Junction”, a breeder block fronting the Boondooma Dam at Proston was purchased. “The Junction” consists of light forest country and is home to over 250 breeders, run in five single sire herds. “Rojan” at Windera, considered some of the finest farming country in the South Burnett, plays a vital role in the operation. Silage is grown on farm and utilised in the preparation of the show and sale teams.  “Lenny’s” located in the Samford Valley provides additional breeder numbers and puts the aggregation at around 5000 acres with over 300 stud and commercial breeders. Cattle are mustered on bikes with the help of working dogs.

Under the astute management of Graham and Melanie Brown the studs have enjoyed considerable success, quickly gaining an enviable reputation in the show ring and achieving excellent sales results at both stud and commercial sales. Our aim has always been to breed fertile and functional cattle.  Females must be able to perform under a range of seasonal conditions. We market around 20 percent of our annual bull production as we are committed to offering only bulls that meet our strict breeding standards. We are proud to have built strong relationships with our bull buyers, many of them loyal repeat purchasers.

In addition to an impressive sire battery, artificial insemination and embryo transfer work are used to rapidly advance the progress of the operation.
